Homegrown fuses the programs of the birdhouse and the planter through carefully considered details which create an ideal home for avian occupants. The design includes three planters, with two on the front and a third on the top, which surround a fully functional birdhouse nestled within. This combination opens the possibility for multifunctional use of the birdhouse, depending on what is selected to be grown in the planting boxes. Benefits include attracting birds and pollinators, growing harvestable herbs and spices for sustainable human consumption, and bringing a new aesthetic to your backyard. Any climatized plant that can grow in six inches of soil can be grown in the planters, a list which may include pansies, violas, basil, mint, and many more floral species.

In the spirit of protecting the environment, we propose commonly found twigs and sticks as the inspiration for the bottom of our birdhouse, with hemp rope binding them together and attaching them to a main structure constructed of untreated wood. The dual-entrance design makes evading predation easier as well, as the entrance is hidden from direct and overhead vantage points. The design is nearly completely predator-proof and rain-proof, and is sure to be the subject of envy at every family gathering.
